No comic for today guys. But …

HERE COMES THE NEWS TRAIN! DING DING!

  • MOCCA Fest 2013 is just two weeks away! Our table number is E160. Come by and say hi! We’ll be there with books, buttons and Charmingus*, the enchanted dwarf-key that opens Blaka-kahn, moon-city of bikinis and dirt bikes.
  • Bunch of good Saucesome comics these last few weeks. If you’re into self-esteem or the history of banana cultivation, start reading around here. Body image philosophy, agricultural history and wonderful artwork: What more could do you want?
  • Dana and I are thinking about doing one or two more conventions in 2014. Does anyone have any comic shows they especially like? Big or small, it doesn’t really matter. Let us know in the comments! Thanks!

*Confession: There’s a small chance we’re still working on this one.

No comic 03/11/13

Sorry guys, no comic this week! News-wise, not much going on either. Couple little things I guess:

  • Dana and I are slowly gearing up for Mocca 2013. The mini is done and off to the printers, and you can preview the cover here.
  • I’m having a fucking horrible time writing anything these days. When we had a tight update schedule, it was much easier to hammer through scripts and stop at “well this is good enough I guess.” Now that I’m trying to write past “good enough,” there’s a lot of writing halfway though something, stopping because it sucks*, then spending 45 minutes** lying face-down in the dark.
  • I can’t believe I waited this long to buy P.O.S.’s new album. It’s so good! Listen to They Can’t Come or Lock-Picks, Knives, Bricks and Bats and feel love and strength rejuvenate your heart. Or, you know, something less sappy but still jubilant and joy-filled.
  • Finished reading Everything Matters last week, a book about a boy gifted with absolute foreknowledge of how the world is going to end, and what he does to prevent it. It’s an easy read, but also one of the more philosophically challenging books I’ve read in a long time. If you’re into existentialism, definitely pick it up.
  • Just started playing through the new Tomb Raider. I’m only 2 or so hours in, but so far it’s pretty great. It plays kind of like Batman: Arkham Asylum, except tilted a bit more toward survival horror? So far there’s no crazy Tony-Hawk-Meets-Bruce-Lee punch-fights, like in Batman, but the gunplay is pretty cool, plus there’s all kinds of climbing and exploring and bonkers action sequences to definitely make the game worth picking up. (So far anyway! Again, I’m only 2 hours in.)

* I’ve discovered there are lots of ways something can end up sucky. There’s regular bad, there’s hopelessly overworked, there’s too complicated, and there’s my personal favorite, a disastrously nonsensical narrative line.

** by 45 minutes, I mean 16 hours.
