Hilarious internets and a brief hiatus

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Working on upgrading all kinds of crap for the site. My “just dive in and install” approach to updating the site’s Wordpress and Comicpress infrastructure has, uh, created some setbacks. Over the next week or three things will start reappearing and improvements should start materializing. In the meantime, enjoy the twisted show that is Mike trying to figure out the internet.

For those of you who haven’t visited the site in a while, Dana and I have decided to take a short hiatus from the comic. We’re taking some time to drastically rework the site in all kinds of new and sexy ways. We’re also going to refocus and ramp up our comic creation process, mostly meaning that I’m going to stop writing comics while trashed off my ass on Frankenberry.

Our rough re-launch date is probably going to be sometime in December. I know that seems like it’s a ways away, but Dana and I both really want to be putting out much more polished comics, and the only way to do that is to put the time in.

Some sketches and blog posts may show up here from time to time, but for the most part, Lead Paint is going dormant for a little while. Dana and I would like to thank everyone for reading so far, and we hope you’ll come back in a few months.

All our Loaf,

Dana and Mike

P.S. Dana has a blog where she draws things and writes Haikus about the saddest rainbows and how the can’t find dates to the cotillion. You can visit it here.

A Resurrection of Sorts

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Sorry about the lack of updates lately. I just started a new job in late Sept. that requires all kinds of writing and being an adult. Then, about two weeks ago I became crazily ill, for, uh, about two weeks. I’m just now getting back on my feet, so hooray for that.

Obviously since I was basically unconscious for two weeks, I’m a little behind on my writing for the relaunch, but we’re still basically on target for a late-December restart.

Thanks to everyone for reading and the kind comments,

Mike

Where we stand

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

I’m finally feeling back to normal, which I think we can all agree is a dandy peach. Writing on the comic is going well, plus I found a bunch of scripts that I forgot I wrote that aren’t too bad, so script-wise for the relaunch we’re starting to look okay.

Dana is in New Zealand, a known lazurous pit for the Wulfekotte Clan, coming back I guess in another week or so.  When she returns, I will probably head up to visit her the weekend after or so (unless that’s Thanksgiving, then it’ll be the weekend after), and shore up plans for the relaunch. I may fuss with the site a little bit in the meantime to try and make it not so hilariously ugly, but I also may decide to sleep all weekend, so I guess we’ll see what happens.

All my loaf,

Oh man!

Dear Swords and Boards,

The anticipated December relaunch approaches! Sort of! I am heading up to visit her this weekend and hammer out the beginnings of our glorious rebirth. Even though Dana has been sick and I’m an idiot, I’m expecting a productive weekend. However, I’m also expecting the following:

  • Dana and I are probably going to eat some doughnuts
  • Gossiping about boys? HELL YES.
  • Arguing over the best dinosaur

So, what I’m saying is, no promises about production.

Seriously though, I do want to thank everyone who has been visiting the site over the hiatus. We’ve had a (relative) ton of traffic, and Dana and I are vastly grateful for everyone’s time and kind words.

Look out behind you,

-Mike

Ain’t No Hollaback Girl

It’s a song about being the head cheerleader from 2005 god guys,

Dana and mine’s meeting of the minds went well this weekend. We completed two scripts, both of which I think turned out much stronger than if I had written them alone (which is how it used to go down). I’m not sure when they’ll be up, but I’m guessing sometime in Jan. I know I promised sometime in Dec., but between my sickness and starting a new job, it just wasn’t going to happen. I apologize for the delay, and vow that it will be worth the wait.

And by that I mean there will probably be comics with swears in them.

Good swears. The fun kind. Not the kind you whisper under your breath, crying, while you remember your middle-school soccer days.

Once the updates start rolling in again, they will probably start coming in a much slower pace. Dana and I have decided to focus on putting out the best comics we possibly can, rather than adhere to an arbitrary update schedule. It’s pretty early in our new creative process to say with certainty, but we’re currently getting a comic up every 2 weeks. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but that’s the idea.

WIth the longer production time, here are some things that we’re planning on adding to the comic:

  • A new art style (maybe)
  • Color (probably)
  • Writing that isn’t horrible (god yes, please hurry)
  • Comics that are funny (fingers crossed)
  • This is second consecutive bulleted list I’ve used in a news post (Radness)

I’ll be working on the site a bit in the next few days, so if the site looks like it’s on fire, don’t worry. It’s just me running around with a pack of matches.

Love and Plasmids,

M to the C
