Oh Mr. Beck, you’re so much more fun than Grumpy old O’Reilly …
A couple of things this week. I have Internet again for one, so I’d like to extend a belated thanks to all the new visitors we’ve had this week. Unfortunately, I’m also just getting over a fairly annoying headcold, so forgive me if my little weekly blog is a little muddled.
VIDEO GAMIN’: I finally beat Batman: Arkham Asylum last night. It’s a good thing too, because I was starting to wonder why the game was getting so damn hard all of a sudden. Prefacing my judgement with, “I’m not a huge Xbox 260 guy, but …,” I still have to say the game ranks as a “must-play,” especially if you’re into the old Bruce Timm cartoon series or Batman at all.
I’m not sure what my next game is going to be. I think I’m most excited about Dragon Age:Origins, but I’m a little worried it won’t translate well for the Xbox, what with the lack of keyboard and mouse options. Plus, it’s supposed to be a huge game, and lately I’ve been losing interest in those. I became bored with Fallout 3 after a few weeks partly because the game world was just too big, and I get bogged down obsessing over side quests and searching every damn box and crate for landmine parts.
Besides Dragon Age: Origins, I’m thinking about resuming Etrian Odyssey 2, taking a chance on Tales of Symphonia, or maybe picking up something a little different, like Street Fighter 4 or Resident Evil 5 (if it has same-screen co-op) that my girlfriend and I can have some fun playing together.
Thoughts, advice and/or prayers to the video game gods are always appreciated.
YOU-TUBIN’: I found a couple fun videos I’d like to share. The first is from a band called “Mewithyou” I heard playing a “Live and Local” spotlight on one of my favorite Philly radio stations. They’re a little different, but I have to say I really love the singer’s voice and all the neat poetry in his lyrics. Plus, the video is really cool, so you basically have to like it.
The Fox, the Crow, and the Cookie
Then, I guess in a similar yet entirely different vein, we have Andy Sandberg dancing in the new season of the truely bizzare children’s series Yo Gabba Gabba (wait for the free-styling at the end):
Here is one of Frodo from a few seasons back (sorry for the hilarious TV-taping, it’s all I can find on Youtube):

i get serious shame-attacks watching celebrities on yo gabba gabba. but i can’t get enough of that elijah wood video.

As far as videogames go, Tales Of Symphonia is a really great game, and I highly recommend it. Although it may not be the best if you’re looking for something with a good co-op system. Most of the game is played in the field map, in town, or in dungeons, and that part is entirely single-player. The co-op elements only really come into effect in battle, when you can have several people controlling characters and fighting at the same time.
@Danas: The scummy stoner beard and tight yellow t-shirt makes it for me.
@Nicholas: I didn’t even know Tales of Symphonia had co-op, that’s pretty cool. I was more considering it for a game just for myself. As wonderful as my girlfriend is, I don’t think sitting through a JRPG storyline just to whack some lizardmen with a sword every five minutes or so is going to be exactly thrilling for her. I’ll keep the recommendation in mind though otherwise, and thanks for the tip.
My favorite beck-ism of the week. Rollercoasters=Obamas secret railroad to communist china…
Man I wish I had a bucket of fish torsos…

Haha, I actually saw that clip this morning. My very favorite thing is that he has a random chubby guy in an elevated glass booth pretending to be Chairman Mao. When I wrote this comic, I had done about zero research and threw the Mao thing in on a lark, but it turns out he’s Beck is all about name-dropping Mao. Amazing.

Great comic, but I think your Glenn Beck looks a little off. Mentally, however, he seems spot on.
Bored of Fallout 3? BORED OF FALLOUT 3?
I said good day, sir.
I SAID GOOD DAY!
Haha, yeah Jon, I don’t know, like I said, I let myself get mired down in sidequests. Plus, I have mental problems that make games with capped-XP systems, where you have to allocate your levels a specific way to get the best max stats, cause me literal mental distress (this is why I can also not enjoy Oblivion, despite it being an amazing game otherwise). I realize that power gaming is not at all required to enjoy the game, but I can’t not worry about maxing the talents I want. Plus, looking in every single box for ammo and parts (because of my mental probelms), I would literally become dizzy sometimes.
I’m not saying the game was bad, because it’s not. We all know it’s pretty great. It’s just that my brain will not allow me to enjoy it properly.
I suppose I should pick it back up at some point, but now, with Dragon Age on the way, Fallout 3 is going to be benched for a while longer.
